Spencer Ewald is one of the original founding members of NXTbook Media, LLC which is focused on providing publishers with a superior digital magazine publishing experience. Before starting NXTbook Media, Ewald was the former Senior Vice President and Group Publisher of the business technology magazine group for Freedom Communications. In August of 2001, he authorized the first two "browser-based" digital edition magazines as a "proof-of-concept" to a new business model. This trial became the foundation of the Nxtbook Media digital edition platform.

Previous to Freedom Communications, Ewald's past publishing experience includes four years in sales management roles at Cowles Business Media for Folio, PRE and Digital Creativity magazines. He also held sales management positions at MRA Publications, Pyrotech Research Inc. and C.I. Glazer & Company.

Ewald received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut and Franklin College, International Institute of European Studies in Lugano, Switzerland.
